FED for operant training (FED-O)
FED can be used for operant training! FED was designed from its inception to include room for a nose-poke on each side of the pellet well. By tweaking the code, FED-O can run fixed-ratio, progressive ratio, or sequential learning (left-right-left) tasks. We are currently testing a variant with two nose-pokes in our lab (pictured below, we call this variant "FED-O"), and we will post instructions for how to modify a FED into a FED-O shortly.

Other variants we are working on include FED with wireless data transfer (FED-I) and a FED that includes RFID tracking for multiple animals (FED-RF). We will make these variants available as we complete them. We can always use help too - please get in touch if you have expertise in Arduino and/or RF design and would like to help!
