FED is an open source system to measure food intake in rodents. FED is low power (it runs on batteries for 5-7 days), small, and accurate. The system uses a photo interrupter to detect the presence of a food pellet, and dispenses a new pellet when the pellet is removed. Time and quantity of pellets dispensed are written to an SD card for later analysis.
