helm-crud

Based on this tutorial and this repo

Install using chart templates

If running on minikube, make sure your minikube cluster has ingress enabled by running: minikube addons enable ingress Then, make sure you have helm installed on your local machine

Finally, ensure that you have kubectl installed and that it is configured for your cluster (either minikube or your managed EKS/GKE cluster or any other kubernetes cluster). You can run kubectl config use-context <cluster_name> to switch to the right context ("minikube" is the default name for minikube cluster config).

To install this app on your cluster, run the following commands:

helm install -f values/kanban-postgres.yaml postgres ./charts/postgres

helm install -f values/adminer.yaml adminer ./charts/adminer

helm install -f values/kanban-app.yaml kanban-app ./charts/app

helm install -f values/kanban-ui.yaml kanban-ui ./charts/app-ui

helm install -f values/ingress.yaml ingress ./charts/ingress

Install using helm package repository

You can also add this repository as a helm package repository!

First run

helm repo add https://calvinliphc.github.io/helm-crud

Then you install with:

helm install -f values/kanban-postgres.yaml postgres helm-crud/postgres

helm install -f values/adminer.yaml adminer helm-crud/adminer

helm install -f values/kanban-app.yaml kanban-app helm-crud/app

helm install -f values/kanban-ui.yaml kanban-ui helm-crud/app-ui

helm install -f values/ingress.yaml ingress helm-crud/ingress

Install using Terraform

By far the simplest method, simply cd into the ./terraform directory

Then run

terraform init

terraform apply

OR

There are 2 variables you can override:

  • config_path : by default "~/.kube/config"; path to the kube config for your cluster
  • config_context : by default "": name of the specific cluster context within your kube config

Change these values in a terraform.tfvars file or pass them into the terraform apply command like so:

terraform apply -var config_path=/some/path -var config_context=contextname

Access the application

Run minikube ip to check the IP address of your minikube cluster. For a managed GKE/EKS cluster, run kubectl get services and check the External IP of your ingress controller. Let's refer to this IP as <ENDPOINT_IP>

Visit <ENDPOINT_IP> to use the kanban board app, and visit <ENDPOINT_IP>/adminer to manage the database.
