How to improve speed?

The best way is to keep the app in foreground. If it enters background state, Mac would limit the performance given to the app to ensure the foreground app run smoothly. (And save energy, of course.)

Currently, most of the time is spent on generating images with Machine Learning. The new MacBook Pros with Apple Silicons contain Apple Neural Engine, which would dramatically improve efficiency. If you use an early Mac, Machine Learning would run on GPU. Hence, a better GPU would result in a better efficiency.

If the app is extremely slow, please reboot your Machine. (Especially after processing a large number of videos.)

How is it done?

It is processed by Machine Learning. The models were from waifu2x-caffe, please refer to them.

Why it can not read my video?

Please transcode the video into HEVC (H.265) or H.264. Compressor is most recommended.
