Aquamacs is free software, but producing it costs a lot of time and also some real cash. From the time the Aquamacs project began in 2004 until 2019, a single developer has produced and combined the majority of the code that makes Aquamacs unique compared to a standard Emacs implementation. In 2019, a new maintainer took over the majority of the continuing maintenance work. Several other volunteers have helped by reporting bugs, making helpful suggestions, adding documentation, helping with support, and contributing special packages.
