Reinstalling doesn't work

I did a sudo systemctl stop input-remapper and a sudo systemctl disable input-remapper and now it's impossible to get it working again. Even removing and re-installing won't bring it back to life using a sudo apt remove --purge input-remapper; sudo apt install input-remapper; sudo systemctl start input-remapper.
