It would be really useful to have a constant-current LED driver on the board. A basic spec would be:

  • 2 channels of illumination (more is a nice bonus but 2 is probably fine for now)
  • adjustable current (ideally not using PWM).
    • Basic version: header pin to allow a resistor to be swapped in, and drive with 5v
    • Better version: integrate a trim pot
    • Best version: add an i2c digipot (if it's surface mount it might not cost much?)
