It would be nice to have shared-mime-info which is required by glib for some of the mime type functions to work.

You mean this, right: https://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/shared-mime-info/

I'm not averse, but I'd prefer not to have glib2 hard-depend on it (in other words, I don't want to further pollute "entire"). I can set up the mirrors.omniti.com side. Also, the OI version categorizes this as "desktop" where I believe it's more accurately categorized (and named) here as system/data/shared-mime-info.

And as always, patches welcome, too.

It's a runtime dependency and it's optional so that makes sense to me.
