Need better positioning options

I'm building an instant messaging system that dynamically instantiates emoji one area on the message to react to the message.

The issue I run into is depending on where the message is within the viewport I need the emoji picker to load at the top-left, top-right, bottom-right or bottom-left.

Has anyone successfully built something like this where the emoji picker doesn't just simply run off-screen?
