⚠️ This issue respects the following points: ⚠️

  • This is a bug. Not a question or feature request.
  • The topic is not already reported at Issues. (I've searched it).
  • Markor is up to date. See Releases for the latest version. Updates are available from F-Droid and GitHub.
  • The bug is still present in the latest development version (git master). (Please download and try the test version of Markor, named Marder. Don't worry; Markor and Marder appear as completely separate applications. You can install both side-by-side, and Markor settings are not touched. In case the issue is resolved there, you don't need to create a bug report. The change will be part of the next Markor update.)

Description

I hope this is not my phone causing the issue. System spell check underlines appear to work everywhere else, including another note app I installed to test. I remember I used to not have this underline issue in Markor. I have tried restarting the phone just to see if that made any difference.

Thank you so much for this app. It does everything I want! I first found it recommended by other Zim Wiki users. :)

For me...
Markor is not consistently showing the red underlines of system spell check, even through "Disable spelling underline" is unchecked. They are showing up elsewhere in the phone. Sometimes red underlines are delayed in appearing. Sometimes they do not appear at all. This varies by whether I am typing near the beginning or end of the file.

For plain-text files, going back up to the top of the file to add misspelled words means those words won't be underlined until you hit the enter key...sometimes. More misspelled words tend to mean more issues. Closing a file and reopening it means that the underlines don't show up for each line until you edit that line. If there are enough misspellings in a file, even a text file, then the underlines disappear entirely and do not reappear even upon editing a line.

For markdown files (I've test WikiText and Markdown), this problem gets worse when there is a text below the top of the file that has markdown-formatting applied.

  • Headings
  • Italics
  • Bold

Once you have a line like that, often any new text above that line never has spell check underlines at all, even after being edited. Sometimes adding some markdown to a line, such as making one word italic, will make it so the entire line now gets underlines again.

The more I play with this, the less clue I have as to what the pattern is, if any.

Marder has all the same issues.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start a new file, especially Markdown or WikiText
  2. Type a bunch of correctly-spelled words. Include line breaks. Make it a dozen lines. Mix in some incorrectly spelled words.
  3. Go back to the top of the file. Type in more words, some spelled correctly and some misspelled.
  4. Try italicizing some words. Trying making one line in the middle of the file a heading. Try closing and reopening a file, then editing lines.
