Instructions and notes for the installing Ruby Version Manager on Ubuntu Linux


- On Ubuntu Linux, install the following pre-requisites
 
  sudo apt-get install curl build-essential bison openssl libreadline6 libreadline6-dev zlib1g zlib1g-dev libsqlite3-dev sqlite3 libssl-dev libyaml-dev libsqlite3-0 libxml2-dev libxslt-dev autoconf libc6-dev ncurses-dev automake


- On OS/X, install XCode version 3.x or 4.x

- On OS/X Snow Leopard, install Homebrew (instructions at https://github.com/mxcl/homebrew/wiki/Installation)
  Install the following packages:

  $ brew install libxml2
  $ brew install libxslt

  bash < <(curl -s https://rvm.beginrescueend.com/install/rvm)
  
  
- Run the following:
  echo '[[ -s "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ]] && . "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" # Load RVM function' >> ~/.bash_profile
  
  
  
- Open a new terminal window and execute:
  rvm install ruby-1.9.2

  rvm --create use 1.9.2@rails3tutorial
  rvm --default use 1.9.2@rails3tutorial
