I run the tests locally a few times and I noticed that I have a huge directory tree of directories inside directories now...

Is this normal? Any idea why this happens?

Oh wow! There are meant to be symlinks connecting rundir -> inputdir and vica versa (mostly for user ease, doesn't help the package). Outside the tests, normal behaviour on linux is that extra symlinks aren't created. Perhaps it's something to do with how we set up the tests
